As this YouTuber continued to discuss her own magickal practice my agreement with her ended. She explained that she knew that doing magick drained every ounce of energy from the practitioner and she wasn’t currently practicing magick because she
As a witch many (if not all) of us are familiar with The Witches’ Pyramid, which consists of: to know, to dare, to Will, to be silent, to go. You can read more about this concept HERE if you are interested. That first pillar of “to know” is the idea of knowing ourselves, our strengths, our limitations, our abilities, our Craft … it would mean that we know when we could and when we shouldn’t be using ourselves as a source of power (energy) for our magicks and as a witch, we would be aware of what the other available sources of power are at that moment and how to tap into those sources for our spell casting. If we are unaware of this, then do we truly “know” ourselves and our Craft?
Energy (power) is what propels our spells forward toward manifestation. It is what builds the momentum within our thoughts, emotions, and actions, including our intentions. Energy is inherent on and in the Earth; it isn’t something that we create, it is something that always is and always was. As witches we recognize that we are able to harness this energy (power) in order to create the changes we desire in our life experience and we would be aware of the sources of the energy that we could tap into to channel that power for our spell casting. So what are those energy (power) sources?
The first source is you (your own body and mind), but don’t be convinced that this source is the only source and if you are exhausted or already feel drained of energy then obviously you wouldn’t want to use yourself, your own power, which is usually stored in your Solar Plexus Chakra, for your spell casting. For me personally this is the last source I tend to pull from. The second source is your surrounding environment, which includes: the planet, the sun, moon, stars, soil, stones, crystals, mountains, forest, your garden, or anything found in our physical world. This is one of the usual sources that I tend to pull energy from. And the last two sources for energy are the Astral or Spiritual realm and Universal Source or otherwise known as deity. Once a witch siphons the energy from one of these sources, he or she is then able to use that energy to propel a spell towards the desired manifestation.
I erroneously thought that this concept was a basic teaching of spell casting, though it seems that not everyone who identifies as a witch knows or comprehends this teaching. If you are reading this blog and are a new witch or a witch that has been practicing for years, I would encourage you to experiment with siphoning energy from sources other than yourself. In my experience the energy feels and responds differently from each source and once you’ve learned how to successfully pull energy from different sources, you will find that It is truly beneficial, especially when you feel energetically drained. Drawing energy from the natural environment can replenish a Psychic Empath when they feel that have been drained by “the world”.
I will close by explaining that I have been known to inform my students and members of my coven to not show up for ritual if they are ill, however the reasoning behind the statement wasn’t because when a person is ill their energy is too low, but because their ability to focus and concentrate would be compromised by their condition. Spell casting and other magickal practices require focus and concentration, both qualities are usually compromised when we are ill.
