There will be a few blog posts with my personal responses to some of the questions found in each chapter of this book. I urge you to follow along with me as we experience the Goddess within.
The fifth chapter is about Hathor and you can find the questions I will be answering in this post on page 87 of the book.
I enjoy the colors that are deep, rich hues like dark, emerald green, dark purple, and burgundy.
I enjoy the shape of circles, and triangles. I find happiness in smiling faces of all ages, people laughing, babies, furry animals and the beauty of nature (sunsets, sunrises, oceans, forests, flowers).
Next, proceed to sound. What sounds make you feel full of joy? These need not be sweet sounds: sometimes discordant sounds stimulate the sense more fully. Make a list of instruments, natural sounds, and music that pleases you.
Sound is the source of much joy for me. I love music whether it is made with the human voice or instruments. I truly enjoy the melody of string instruments and drums. They move me from deep within like nothing else can. I also enjoy the sound of water hitting a surface especially like an umbrella, canopy or tent roof. I like the sound of deep bass when listening to popular music. I am one who enjoys feeling the vibration of the beat within my body. And the sound of the sleeping … the gentle rise and fall of the breath brings me total relaxation and contentment although interesting enough the sound of a white noise machine can easily slip me into trance if I am not consciously focusing on staying aware.
Now, touch: make a list of things that feel good to you. What kinds of sensations give you pleasure?
I enjoy the sense of touching. I especially like the feel of fur on animals or head hair on people. Running my fingers between the strands and feeling the warmth of the body beneath the hair is a beautiful sensation to me. I enjoy the feeling of hugs from people, hearing their breath and heartbeat while feeling the warmth of their body. Nothing is compared to that.
Move onto smell: what fragrances make you feel giddy and joyous?
I have a very sensitive sense of smell … I can tell when something smells "off". I enjoy the scent of patchouli and Nag Champa. When cooking I enjoy scents that are spicy like cinnamon, curry, basil and oregano. The smell of coffee beans is wonderful! Sweet smells like ripe fruit or bread baking in the oven.
And finally, taste: what kinds of taste fill you with pleasure? What specific foods and drinks have that effect on you?
I like the taste of many things and I find that it is as changeable with my natural cycle of energy. Mostly I enjoy the deeper tastes of foods … rich tastes with hidden subtleties.
Go through your memories to find as many settings as possible that seem joyous to you. What events occurred in those settings?
I enjoy camping in the forest near a water source so that I can enjoy the scents of the trees mixed with the saltiness of the ocean. There’s nothing like being outside in nature with the smell of a campfire and hearing the crackling of the wood as it burns. Feeling the breeze of the air and the warmth of the fire.
Sitting at night in my living room cuddled on the sofa with my husband covered with a warm blanket and the dog and cat curled up on my lap watching a movie on the TV. Sometimes the sensation of this can lull me to sleep.
Think of yourself at the age of eight. What gave you pleasure then? Think of yourself at twelve, sixteen, and twenty. What gave you pleasure then? Is there any difference?
When I was eight years old interaction with my friends and family gave me most pleasure.
At twelve I became immersed in music and books.
At sixteen my love of music and books continued but I also was again focused on my friendships.
At twenty my focus shifted to theater, and writing.
Consider your friends, lovers, associates. Who among them gives you pleasure, and why?
It is difficult for me to name just a few individuals. I believe that my husband, children and family give me pleasure but my students and other spiritual associates also give me pleasure of a different way. I find that everyone I come in contact with add to my pleasure of life.
If you were given a month off and all the money in the world, with the only limitation that you cannot buy anything that will outlast the month, how would you make yourself happy?
I would travel and experience different locations and cultures experiencing as much as I could. It would be amazing!
If you had a month off and no money at all, what would you do to make yourself happy? How can you do that for yourself today?
I believe I do this on a daily basis. I don’t need money to make me happy.
