An A-Z List of New Age Practices to Embrace

1/30/2019

This blog post is in direct response to one made by Doreen Virtue, which can be found HERE.

The New Age offers a path to personal enlightenment and a deeper understanding of the Universe and humanity’s relationship with it. The New Age teaches us that we hold the inherent power to manifest whatever experiences we desire for ourselves as we live within the shared reality and physical realm of existence. The reality is that humans are just a part of the vast expanse that is the Universe and because of this we are searching for knowledge and greater understanding. There is no end to our seeking because there isn’t meant to be one.

The Tenets of Wicca: Having a Relationship With The Tools of The Craft

As I mentioned in a previous blog post that there are tenets that exist that create the foundation of Wicca even if you are a Modern Eclectic Wiccan. There is a line, a boundary for everything, a point when something stops being one thing and transforms into something else. There are characteristics or traits that identify Wicca as Wicca. I will continue to discuss these characteristics or tenets in this blog. I have already discussed other tenets and today I will continue with the next one, which is:

  • Having a relationship with the tools of The Craft.

Wicca Misappropriated Witchcraft

11/21/2016

There has been a focus within the pagan community about cultural misappropriation and I am not certain where I stand on the issue, but this blog post isn't going to be about that specifically. What I am going to be discussing is if Wicca has misappropraited witchcraft. I recently watched a video that suggested that Wicca has misappropriated and continues to misappropriate witchcraft.

"WHAT?!" I raised my eyebrow when I heard this suggestion. "Seriously?!"

Let’s begin by clarifying the definition of misappropriation: taking something in a way that is wrong, illegal, or unfair; stealing.

Not All Wiccans Are Witches

So I was surfing YouTube the other day looking for new channels to subscribe to and interesting magick, witchy, and spiritual people to invite to be a guest on my weekly LIVE stream, The Sacred Circle, when I happened upon a video titled Wicca VS Witchcraft, which caught my eye so I clicked on it and began watching and listening to what the YouTuber had to say on the topic. While I listened I checked out the About section because I like to have some background information on who I am spending my time with: 436 subscribers, 17,097 views, and joined September 18, 2007. The channel had about 144 public videos. This individual described himself as a witch that has "being doing this for almost 10 years". I'm assuming that the "this" referred to was witchcraft, but it could also refer to uploading videos, so I'm not sure.

So I watched and from the beginning and it didn't take long to get to the statement, " ... there are some Wiccans who practice wicthcraft, and then there are some people who practice witchcraft but not Wicca, and then there are some people who are Wiccans, but do not practice witchcraft."

Wicca: A Valid Religion

6/6/2016

Many individuals perceive Wicca as a spiritual system that allows those of us, who identify as Wiccan, to follow a path that “caters to our own desires”, a spiritual path that allow “anything goes” and those individuals who identify as Wiccan to be “lost souls under the influence of Satan”. The religions that are “following God’s Commandments” are believed to be the only valid religions and because of this they will consider Wicca to be our own invention and not a valid religion. Well, honestly, while others may perceive the religion of Wicca, my religion, in this way – I do not. Wicca is a valid religion.

Wiccans view our planet Earth as a living being. She is Gaia, our Mother and all life (
animal, planet, mineral) that flows from her is sacred. No one life is more important or more valued than another. This belief guides our daily interactions not only with the land we reside on, but also with each other, as we are all children of Mother Gaia, making each of us brothers and sisters. We also have the guidance of: The Wiccan Rede, The Law of Return (The Threefold Law), The Witches’ Pyramid, The Eight Virtues  of The Goddess, and The Eight Virtues of The God, to direct us along our

The Ten Wiccan Commandments?

5/14/2014

I recently was on facebook and came across an image that a facebook friend shared on their page. It caught my attention because I identify as a Non-Traditional Wiccan Witch. Now, I didn’t see where the image first originated from so I cannot give credit where credit may be due.

While I can agree with the sentiment of these “Commandments”, I do have some serious issues with most of the statements and I feel guided to address them with you. The first issue I have is with the use of the title “The Ten Wiccan Commandments”. This is, in my opinion, misleading to those who may know nothing of Wicca. Unlike numerous Christian religions, Wicca has no “Commandments” that must be followed. We are not commanded, ordered, or instructed, to do anything, by anyone, unless of course, you have been Initiated into a Coven; that Coven may have rules that you must follow in order to remain in that Coven, however, many Wiccans do not belong to a Coven and thusly don’t adhere to any Commandments, instead we are

Is The Wiccan Rede Flawed?

5/31/2013

"If witchcraft is a nature religion then the primary laws of nature must hold true above all else. So the first law of witchcraft must be, logically thinking, the strong survives and, the second law of witchcraft, as in nature, must be, life must consume life in order to live. This not only contradicts the fabled Wiccan Rede but also renders it null and void. ... The whole idea is of the fabled Wiccan Rede is impractical and proves itself flawed when applied to real life situations in the mundane world."  - Shawn Poirier, 1967-2007

Witchcraft is not only an early pagan form of religion but also the science and craft of causing change to occur in conformity with Will. Since it is a craft of the wise, one must use wisdom when practicing it. Let's apply that wisdom now.

If one were to say that the strong survives in nature how does one measure this strength? Is it physical strength we're speaking of? Or is it spiritual strength? How about emotional strength? Or mental strength? Which is stronger of all of these? When we speak of using Will to change the things around us doesn't that imply that mental strength is, at that point, stronger

Raising Witches

5/5/2013

It is my belief that children need to be taught spirituality and which path is taught is usually the path that the parents follow. So, if you are Wiccan then you teach Wicca, if you are Christian then you teach Christianity. Does this mean that other religions or spiritual paths should be ignored? No. What it means is that you raise your children with the idea that there is something, a Divine Source from which all things flow, that there is a connection that binds all living beings and as that child matures you may then open the door to other paths so that the adolescent can experience other forms of spirituality and choose his/her path for his or herself. Children should understand that there are religions and spiritual paths that are different from their own however I believe that they first need to establish a foundation and ...

You Can’t Call Yourself That!

If you are active in the pagan community whether it is online or offline I am certain that you have stumbled across the controversy pertaining to names and labels especially the question as to whether a Wiccan who is solitary (either by choice or circumstance) should use the word Wiccan to label oneself. These conversations can get very heated and emotionally charged leaving everyone involved feeling distressed.

In the past I have identified with the label of Solitary Eclectic Wiccan though recently after a discussion with an intelligent and talented online friend, Annika, the author of OathBoundSecrets   I have adjusted my wording to Non-Traditional Wiccan which reflects the fact that I have not been initiated nor do I follow any specific tradition within Wicca such as; British Traditional, Gardnerian, Alexandrian, or Dianic (to name a few of

Who Am I?

2/26/2013

I’ve always considered myself religious and/or spiritual. The word I chose to describe myself really depended on when in my life you ask me and where I was on my path seeking Truth. Was I religious? Yes, indeed I was - if at that time I was Roman Catholic or Methodist or One of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Was I spiritual? Yes, if you asked me at any other time. Because, you see, just as countless others have, I’ve traveled a convoluted winding pathway of concepts and ideas some filled with contradictions and absolutes as well as freedom from all dogma and restrictions. I am constantly seeking the answers to life’s most profound questions. You know the ones: Why am I here? What is the purpose of my life? What does God want from me? The list of questions goes on and on and I always felt there was a way to find the answers. I was certain they didn’t dwell in a book nor would pure faith give me the responses I sought. I knew they were within my reach. Somewhere. I just couldn’t see them. I needed to find the key, which my spirit/soul/inner being told me was buried within spirituality.
