Here on the physical plane of existence, the realm of experiment and expansion, there are two polarities, which can be labeled in a number of ways but always reflect the opposite of the other, such as; light and dark, above and below, birth and death. Many individuals would suggest that things of a spiritual nature are higher in vibrational frequency and would align them with the polarity of light while things of a physical nature are denser and lower in vibrational frequency so they would be aligned with dark. I agree. Physicality is dense and solid while ideas are ethereal. I also agree with the idea that the denser energy or physicality separates us from each other. It’s evident by just looking at me then you; we are separate people with unique personalities and this is because we both possess a physical body, but the lighter energy unites us as One. Though we are separate human bodies we are connected by spirit or spiritual energy, but this does not imply that there is no place in our share human experience for the darker, denser, physical energy nor is it unnecessary or detrimental to us. It is through this dark energy, this separation that we are able to explore our own perspectives and personalities bringing forth new understandings to the Collective Consciousness.
In my perspective there is more than just this one benefit from dwelling in the darkness, but we must also live in the light. The natural world we inhabit provides many examples of why a balance is most beneficial to living beings on Earth. Every place on this beautiful planet experiences both day and night, even in Alaska where the day light may shine for sixty-seven days, a night will always follow. This occurs because even the Earth requires a balance of the polarities. The sun cannot shine indefinitely without causing damage to all things dwelling upon it and night cannot blanket the planet without also killing all living things; one without the other causes an imbalance in the exchange of vital energy, but it would be unwise to believe that darkness is always the manifestation of destruction, neglect, apathy, and fear, but even when it does represent these conditions, they are not always unwarranted or detrimental.
During our life time we will experience events and relationships that will require us to gain an understanding about the nature of others and ourselves through working within darkness or by identifying our own Shadows and exploring the pain and suffering that is associated with it. We can raise our consciousness, or become more energetically sensitive, or Empathic, after working through a personal Shadow or challenging event because we illuminated it, we brought it to the surface, examined it, healed from it, and integrated it into our Authentic Witch self. If we were to spend our entire life time only living in the light, we would never experience personal growth because we would have no motivation to move remaining instead content and complacent where we were. We would never have the opportunity to discover what we are hiding within our own darkness and miss the opportunity to become more aware or aligned with The Universe. Motivation into action comes from recognizing the lack within ourselves, or experiencing shock in whatever form it is manifested.
Witches learn much from dwelling within the darkness just as Lightworkers learn when living in the light. There is a balance to be found between the polarities for each of us whether we identify as one or other, but it is important to realize that we are unable to fully understand one without the other for it is when we are within one that we are able to comprehend the nature of the other.
I am neither Lightworker or Darkdweller ... I am Witch.
