Zen is defined in The Magician's Companion as: a system of mental stillness origination in India, where it was known as dhyana. The idea is to attain release from attachment to the objective world with the goal of permitting experience by direct perception or intuition. This idea holds a dominate role within my own spiritual practice. It is what I intend to achieve through meditation regardless of what style or type of meditation I am doing at the time. I perceive this mental state as being ideal for communing with the Spirit Realm in order to gain knowledge and wisdom from my Spiritual Court, which would include my Beloved Dead, The Ancestors, my familiar spirits, Spirit Guides, Spirit
Allies, and The Mighty Ones, with whom I have cultivated a relationship with and work with on a daily basis. I would suggest that those of you who practice trance work are reaching this state of zen though we may label it in a different way, the connection to the Spirit Realm is the same and will result in the same wisdom, knowledge, and messages.
I would suggest that magicians, Witches, and other magickal practitioners desire to attain this state of mind so as to bring forth desired manifestations with the aid of the True or Spiritual Self as well as those outside spiritual entities.
